Plane crash in Stockton sends two to hospital, damages plane

A plane crash in Stockton on Saturday night sent two people to the hospital and left a World War II era plane severely damaged.

San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating a plane crash in Stockton that left two people injured on Saturday night, according to a Facebook post by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

The plane, which was a World War II era aircraft, attempted to land in an open field, but appeared to have hit an irrigation ditch.

Three people were on the plane, two of whom were transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the post. The other person was able to walk away from the crash, which occurred near Roberts and Muller roads in Stockton.

The plane was left with extensive damage, officials said.

“IN the North, at least.” I was glad to read this phrase in Jeneen Interlandi’s “The Pandemic in Fall and Winter” in the Sept. 20 New York Times.

It was inserted, parenthetically, in a prediction that COVID-19 cases will increase as cold weather drives people indoors. Here in our part of the world, of course, the opposite is mostly true and it’s nice to see that fact acknowledged.

In Savannah, it’s the summer weather that drives people indoors. Or to the beach.

So many people have been flocking to Savannah’s beach this summer, the City of Tybee Island is keeping lifeguards on duty through an unspecified date in October.
