Iowa roads and drivers have become safer in many ways, but there are hundreds of fatalities a year, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
Update: The man was struck by a minivan and remained hospitalized in serious condition, police said Tuesday. He was expected to survive. A 42-year-old woman was driving the van that hit him, though she has not yet been cited in relation to the crash. Police are still investigating.
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Monday night in Des Moines. According to police, his injuries were serious.
Police received the report of a 56-year-old man hit by a vehicle at around 6:25 p.m. near the intersection of 10th Street and University Avenue, just west of the Des Moines Area Community College Urban Campus. Officials said the man suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive.
Officials said they are in the early stages of investigating the incident, and no further details were immediately available Monday night.
